What If You

A poem by Lucas Turner-Harris

What if you were her?
Would you stay? Would you leave?

What if you did everything I did?
Would you run back to me?

Building roots deep within.
Like a tower extends to the sky.

Feelings of unfairness repressed.
Both of us won’t change our minds.

Ego aside, been waiting a long time.
All I ever wanted was true love to confide.

Confide in me, love me how?
Love me tough without raising a brow.

What if you were her?
What if you were me?

What if when I said I loved you,
I meant it to infinity?

What if we’re soulmates?
Maybe we’ll never know.

If we were soulmates,
You wouldn’t have let me go.
