As the father of an epileptic child, I decided to further investigate what more I could do to continually monitor my child’s seizures. Losing the privilege of seeing my child every day due to a separation, I had to make sure I was doing everything on my end to make sure seizures are monitored and controlled. Don’t get me wrong, my children are with me majority of the time, but it’s always that one moment you’re away from your child that you think the impossible.

If you recall from my reading my daughter’s story, she began having seizures at the early age of two years old. Since, she has been on medication and tolerating it very well to reduce the amount of seizures while rest. I have noticed tremendous results with her current medication regimen while observing a healthy diet as treatment for her condition.

I conducted research on monitoring epilepsy. Before separation, I had a flawless Blink XT2 camera system with features that would capture any motion possibly revealing any epileptic conditions. Since this would no longer work as a substitute aside from when my daughter is home with me, I did my research on Empatica Embrace2, an FDA-cleared medical device for seizure monitoring.

I just ordered this watch with a prescription from my daughter’s NP and it was as seamless as possible. After receiving the prescription, I ordered the watch and was told I could possibly be reimbursed dependent on the insurance used.

Once ordered, I was sent an email, registered, and submitted my prescription online to begin the process of reimbursement, because who doesn’t want $250 back, right?

The only thing now is waiting for the device to arrive to determine its effectiveness at possible seizure detection. In my daughter’s case, her seizures only occur during periods of rest, but are controlled due to her medication, so I would like to see what technology catches that my eye doesn’t.
