Dad Drowns Drone in the Ohio River

The last memory of a dry drone moments before its death

By the end of a long day, I like to wind down with a brisk walk at the Big Four Bridge and sit Riverside enjoying the view. Yesterday was one of those days.

Maybe I predicted my drone’s death when I noticed moments before, two siblings were playing with a bouncy ball that rolled right into the river.

The older brother chased after the ball, hoping to stop it from reaching the pits of the river. The younger sister, filled with tears, was stricken with sadness because her toy would never be recovered again. It’s the little things.

The little things applied to me moments later. To put a smile on her face for her loss, I pulled out my Drone called Dronie and flew him in view for a spectacular show.

Zooming under and over the bridge in the sunset sky, I felt like a pilot trained to navigate the low tidal which I was accustomed. It wasnt until I noticed a propeller in view on my phone’s screen. I glided left, then right, circled back under the bridge once more, but what happened next left my jaw on the floor to never be picked up again.

The children who were watching my drone master the skies observed it’s imminent death. “Did it just go under,” cried out the little girl. “Yes it did,” I replied nonchalantly. “Will it come back up,” she asks. Dazed as if I didn’t just lose $1200 I nodded in disgust.

I have no idea what happened. My experience was sure to occur sooner or later but I was glad to have been given the chance to fly a $1200 drone and keep it alive for a year. Yes, my drone has gotten stuck in some odd places that I’ve been able to retrieve, but never, never has it ever drowned to its technical death.

My loss, is a future divers gain. Maybe..
