I’m a Doordasher, here are the orders I deny and you should too

When I first started working as a Dasher, I enjoyed the benefits of being self-employed and a free schedule to do as I please. Like any job, there are cons, which in this gig industry, are mostly attributed to wear and tear on my vehicle, the utilization of lots of gasoline and low pay.

I deny several orders from Doordash’s platform, mostly because Doordash’s base pay is low or the customer didn’t tip. Both financial factors must make sense in order to accept it. Here’s what I mean.

Let’s say McDonald’s has an order to be picked up. The distance is 5 miles, regardless of how many items, the pay is $2.25. if you recall on prior posts about time management and making smarter financial choices, this is not an equitable order to accept. Factors such as time, distance, traffic and if an order is even ready all come in to play.

Here are orders that frequently get denied instantly.

15 miles for $6.50
$3.50 for 12 Miles and no where near the restaurant
$9.50 for TWO ORDERS at TWO RESTAURANTS that always take the longest to prepare
$6.50 for TWO ORDERS at TWO DIFFERENT restaurants
Half pay for double the miles
One customer ordered from two different restaurants but left absolutely no tip for either order

These orders are examples of why it is absolutely hard to profit from being a Dasher. DoorDash has failed to increment the minimum amount of each order’s base pay, which still remains at $2.25. If Doordash doesn’t raise the base pay to a minimum of $5 and customer’s don’t tip for their convenient orders, Doordash will decline as quickly as it started.

The most frustrating part of working for DoorDash is the failure to appreciate the driver who is using their time to pick up orders. We wait for long orders to finish preparing, we wait in minute-long traffic, we deal with the higher gas prices more than it takes you to fill up ONCE a week, whereas we fill up every other day, and so much more.

Tip your Dasher. Tip whoever is providing you convenience.
