Halloween: another wonderful holiday to experience

The end of October is here and we all begin a new month tomorrow. Today is halloween, October 31st 2022. Halloween is more to me than the harm others see in the holiday, in regards to religion. But that is not the topic of discussion here.

Halloween for me as a child growing up in the 90s was an amazing experience each year. I remember once being buzz lightyear, another year batman. I had some cool costumes.

What made this Halloween more inspiring was that my kid’s both chose the same costume. My son wanted to be a police officer and originally my daughter wanted to be a fairy. When the fairy outfit arrived it was too small. Early in October, I was able to exchange the fairy costume with a police officer costume. Thus my children both had the same costume for this halloween. They really did uphold the law tonight.

In addition to the fact both of my children chose to be police officers, we also trick or treated in the same neighborhood we did in 2021. The irony of the neighborhood we trick or treated at was that it was the same one I trick or treated in when I was little. It brought some sentimental emotions.

I love halloween! I love the fact people can dress up and be whoever they want to be without judgment. I love that multiple organizations even allow it in their workplaces with limitations presumably. I don’t see the harm in it. Growing up, I remember most churches would say you worship the devil when you choose to participate in any Halloween festivity. Behaviors of those who celebrate it represent celebrating the night. But isn’t trunk or treat identically imitating the obvious?

Even though Halloween allows people to become the most disturbing character, I don’t see how it’s worshiping the devil or darkness. Compared to Thanksgiving, you celebrate and give thanks for familial dinner. Shouldn’t we give thanks every day for every meal? I do. Just a personal rant.

Seeing my children’s faces tonight going house to house really brought out the inner kid in me. It felt good to see the interactions from the other families tonight as well. I wish there was a way to say thank you aside from writing a forum on Nextdoor.com. the kindness really flowed from house to house.

I think what I’m trying to say is this is a plus one for families. I really enjoyed Halloween as an adult tonight. Interacting with families who made cute comments about my kid’s costumes was awesome. Of course, my ‘Big Lil Sis’ Amyra literally painted my face as a Skeleton Coach and she did one heck of a job in 10 minutes!

I have to admit, this was an awesome Halloween. Way to go, October! You really went by in a breeze.

The coolest thing happened tonight before we trick or treated! My son saw rain and looked outside and said, “Dad there must be a rainbow.” He went outside, saw a rainbow and at the same time my mother called me seeing the same rainbow! Wow that was really cool intuition! So what happens next? We sent the drone up! But the rainbow was so close and so wide, we were almost under the rainbow. I’ll link up that photography later, but for now you can see it on my Snapchat by clicking the Louisville Halloween Rainbow.

Double rainbow

Two more months of the year remain. Two years ago, I saw a shooting star. I wonder what celestial or natural occurrence I’ll witness next year! This year, my kids and I saw God’s gorgeous covenant together. I pray for financial wealth and incredible health for all. Stay blessed!
