I’ve been dashing for a little over a year now as well as driving for Uber Eats. DoorDash has been an enjoyable side hustle that has granted me the freedom to live my life as freely as possible while earning a weekly paycheck.
Out of the over 3,800 deliveries I’ve had with DoorDash, I have discovered several factors that would make dashing a more pleasant experience. There’s one most Dashers agree would assist them financially by offsetting the pressure of tipping culture (expecting a tip for service not rendered in full).
Factors such as increasing the base pay has been a topic discussed amongst dashers for years. DoorDash will simply pay one individual $2.25, at the minimum, to deliver an order to you within the allotted time frame they promise on the app. Of course we are aware that delays can cause issues delivering within a certain time frame but the focus here is why am I receiving a tint dollar amount not worthy of my time?
Ask yourself this. If you were a delivery driver, no matter the mileage would you deliver an order for $2.25. If you said no then I simply rest my case. If you said yes allow me to discuss this further.
The problem at hand is the fact that DoorDash nor Uber will financially support the driver individually based on the GPS location where they accepted the order. By not paying for time, distance traveled, gas especially, you really lose a lot of time and money if you don’t accept wiser orders. Look at the picture below. You have to be smart about the restaurants you pick up from, because some doors are still closed which means waiting in long drive-throughs. Well that may be a part of the deal, it is not ideal to profit quickly.
Agreeing to deliver one order for $2.25 is really a joke. It is a waste of your time. In the driving industry you are not a bartender. $2.25 will not feed your stomach, your family, your gas tank, or remotely pay a single bill. Do you know what exactly it is you’re wasting by waiting for $2.25? Do you know what you lose when you drive out of your way, fighting through ignorant drivers on the road, just to get to an order not worth your time?

First, you waste time accepting the order for $2.25. Secondly, you waste your gas tank heading to the restaurant especially if you are further than 2 mi away, stopping in and out of traffic. Third, you waste more time because the 13 minutes it took you to get to the restaurant and the order is still in progress.
Every order does not matter when in this industry, you have the power to accept or deny what you want without fault. In this industry, survival of the wisest will win.
