If you are one of the dashers or drivers on another platform, you have likely experienced a decrease in weekly pay. There are many reasons for the decrease as it relates to the holidays and weather delays.
I have not had much luck dashing since summer of 2022. Ever since doordash got rid of their partnership with Walmart, I have had trouble meeting a quota of $100 a day in 4 hours. Even when I’m active on the app, I receive several orders, however, they are not worth accepting the trip.
Orders that I typically decline are ones that don’t equal a dollar per mile. Also, orders where the Total Mileage exceeds the Total Pay. Even if I were to accept a job that pays a dollar per mile, I feel like I’m losing money because I’m technically not receiving any additional pay for the convenience of delivery.
I’ll include a couple screenshots I’ve taken on the DoorDash platform to give you an idea of how frustrating it is as an economy worker.

In the above screenshot, this order is from Chick-fil-A where the total pay is $2.25 for 1.7 mi.

In the screenshot above, this order is from Chick-fil-A to the customer for $3.50 for a total of 4.7 miles.

In the screenshot above to McDonald’s, the total pay is $3 for one and a half miles.
I frequently reject orders because they do not benefit me in the long run. I still have bills to pay so I still have to play this gig wisely. While gas is an average of $2.67, I still have to take time and delays into consideration when accepting orders. Orders under $8 are basically pointless. All of the orders that I screenshot above you should not accept either. They will not benefit you even if you drive a Tesla. I don’t know anyone who would want to make $2.25 for 33 minutes of their time.
What I wish customers who use a platform understood is we are not hourly workers. Therefore we depend on the tips that the customers provide the dasher. In prior post I have discussed a similar understanding of why customers would not want to tip before receiving their order, however, if you do not tip, it definitely will not be picked up anytime soon. The way that the dasher platform works, is a wage pops up showing the total distance. You have to show me you really want your order and I will do everything in my power to expedite your order to you.

The unfortunate thing with doordash is how they rate their dashers. If you perform poorly it is understood you will be terminated from the app. When I reject multiple orders DoorDash pauses my app, thinking I am not accepting orders. They are correct that I am not accepting garbage orders that do not benefit me.
I’m not confident that I will continue to do DoorDash in 2023, however I hope to see an increase in base pay in customers tipping in order to keep me busy. DoorDash and Uber Eats are both showing me that they cannot meet the demand of the delivery drivers who choose to use the platform for work. The DoorDash motto stands, no tip no trip, no pay no way.
